Hands

Kathy Morgan: When you first come to the method, you don’t think your hands are anything but your hands. But Amelia would say:

"The hands have to be open, they have to be soft, they have to be sensitive to somebody’s body, they have to be sensitive through your body. You have to understand the force through the floor, through you, into your hands, into them.”

So the development of the hands is crucial. If you aren't using the hands successfully, you block a person. The hands are blocking the release of the muscle, and blocking the flow of energy being transferred from the floor, through you, into your hands, and into them.

On the chair and the table, we work with the balancing forces. You have to be free enough in your own body to allow the client's body to change and move. You have to allow what is needed, not what you might want to happen. You have to be sensitive enough to catch that, understand that movement.”
