Line of Direction

notebooks of Amelia Itcush

Amelia's research as an injured dancer, a time when she addressed her own inability to let go, was seminal in developing her notion of line of direction.

In letting go, line of direction guides and supports our movement. A mover uses line of direction to reach out into space, or to set and follow a direction into a turn or change of level.

Line of direction supports us in space, allows us to turn and cut though space, guiding us. Eventually the lines are no longer an idea - they actually exist.

An Itcush practitioner uses line of direction to direct force through a client’s body in hands-on work.

Using the line of direction liberates bone as the creative force for movement, allowing muscle its rightful supporting role.

The prairie allows us to move into infinite space, to connect with all that is out there and let it travel through us in figure eights. Creating balance, creating nothingness.
