“Amelia was having a kid’s day in the country with David and a friend that he brought along. They had a picnic, and Amelia was playing games with the boys.”

Mitzvah into Itcush

Mitzvah into Itcush

“I spent time working to strip down exercises to find the core of what is effective in an exercise. This alone brought about many changes in my body.”

Hands

Hands

"The hands have to be open, they have to be soft, they have to be sensitive to somebody’s body, they have to be sensitive through your body. You have to understand the force through the floor, through you, into your hands, into them.”

Development

Development

The Itcush Method is a series of exercises and theories derived from the Mitzvah Technique developed by M. Cohen-Nehemia and intended to develop optimal physical functioning through balancing muscle tissue and aligning the skeleton.

Down To Go Up

Down To Go Up

Our bodies are in a dynamic state of constant rebalancing - the shift of the balancing forces. The more a body connects with the weight, the more it accesses the force or the spring.

Patterns of Misuse

Patterns of Misuse

Increasing kinaesthetic awareness in everyday patterns leads to the understanding that there is no dancing body, acting body, sleeping body, and so forth. The body is always the body.

Hands on Table and Chair

Hands on Table and Chair

The body moves according to familiar movement patterns. When a habitual pattern prevents optimal physical functioning, the pattern needs to be changed.

Self Maintenance Exercises

Self Maintenance Exercises

In this work, activation of the primary principles and theories are crucial in order to develop the student’s cognitive and physical understanding of how change in the body occurs. Between sessions, there is a need to maintain changes brought about by hands-on work.

Itcush into Dance

Itcush into Dance

Amelia was determined to reduce injury and physical distortion in the practice of dance. The goal was to bridge the gap between dance’s extreme relationship with gravity and a more healthful and ultimately restorative movement practice: movement that fed the body.

Soft Foot

Soft Foot

The foot does not prepare to hit the ground. It simply remains open to the experience of interacting with an uneven surface. This is why wearing shoes is so problematic – the shoe predetermines the foot's shape when it hits the ground.

Line of Direction

Line of Direction

Line of direction supports us in space, allows us to turn and cut though space, guiding us. Eventually the lines are no longer an idea - they actually exist.

CN Tower

CN Tower

“I walk backwards, its great for balance.”

Changes

Changes

“After experiencing Amelia’s hands, I felt there is something to this, but I was still stubborn towards it. Only when there was a revolutionary change in my body did I really grasp the importance.”

Fantasia

Fantasia

Pushing down off the floor with the foot or knees allows force to travel up through the leg, triggering the pelvis, and travelling on up into the spine. It creates a rippling motion in the spine all the way to the head.
